Recently, I am interested in to express a moment of ordinary people such as cleaning, sleeping, resting, praying, chatting, reading, going out. etc. Despite of them are plain things, I do my best to make it dramatic under odd and meaningful producing skills. Sub titles of <Sabbath> <Pray> are related in the spiritual life of believers’; <With a soft step> <Freedom> <Windy day> are related in the life of enduring: <Beautiful Chatting> are for the expression of loving in between peoples. Especially, <What life is...> is to solve the stern reality of life through humor.
Usually, I hope that these arts are over the limitation of two or three dimensional expression. Thus, I not only put a small sculpture into 2 Dimensional painting but also stand a representational sculpture on the upper ground of abstract structure. Furthermore, to remake the original paper based drawings as very simplified human shapes, I use a delicate thin metal plate and various thickness of wires. To protect it, permanent metal pigment are covered on them; and finally put on in the dramatically designed space; in certain cases, it appears that the effect of unexpected shadows or reflected lights on the vacant background wall.
Through the procedure, I want to focus on to extract the ekisu erasing from the extra part of it and make the subject of idea appeal. The main idea is to give certain message through the situation of a personage or couples. As a result, the goal of my art approach the aesthetics of Humanism to make it more happier and beautiful what the ordinary people’s joy and sorrows.

<휴식> 시리즈 많은 사람들이 경쟁 사회에서 살아남기 위해 극심한 스트레스를 받고 일중독과 알 수 없는 불안으로 불면증에 시달린다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 수면제를 달고 사는 사람들, 한밤중까지 스마트 폰을 보면서 잠들 수 없는 사람들, 영업시간이 지난 한밤중에 간판을 끄지 못하는 상인들이 많다. 홍대 주변이나 강남역의 주말 거리는 밤을 즐기는 사람들로 가득하여 자정부터 새벽까지가 더 붐빈다. 프랑스 철학자 장 보들리야르는 그의 저술 <America>에서 이러한 현대사회에 대하여 불이 꺼지면 두려우니 빛을 현대의 우상처럼 섬기는 현상이라고 말한다. 이렇게 잠들 수 없는 많은 현대인들에게 본인의 작품은 <안식> 혹은 <휴식> 에 대한 주제를 통해 새로운 시각을 선사하고자 하는 의도를 지니고 있다. 종교적으로도 그렇고 세속적으로도 그렇고, 휴식과 안식은 재생산을 위한 필수 시간이다. 기독교의 경우, 십계명의 하나인 안식일의 경우, 일주일 중 6일은 열심히 일하고 마지막 하루는 안식하는 율법을 인간에게 선사하여 삶의 기준을 알려주고 있다. 하루 중에서도 5∼7시간 정도 수면을 취하는 잠은 재충전을 위해서 필수적인 것으로, 우리 생의 일부분이자 삶의 연장이다. 보통 사람들은 삶의 30% 정도의 시간을 수면에 할애하고 있으며 그것은 건강과 직결된다. 수면의 최고의 상태인 삶의 연장으로서의 영원한 휴식은 신의 안식에 참여하는 것이라고 본다. 우리가 자기 집, 호텔, 도서관 혹은 교통 수단으로서의 버스나 기차, 배, 항공기 등에서도 우리는 휴식을 취하거나 수면을 취한다. 그렇지만 이러한 휴식이나 잠 중에서 가장 두드러진 휴식은 언제일까? 본인은 삼각형(Triangle) 안에서의 휴식이나 수면이 그 중 하나라고 생각한다. 삼각형은 가장 안정적인 구도이며, 각각의 선분이 서로가 서로를 지탱하면서 구조적으로 완벽함을 지향한다. 이러한 삼각 구조로서 성삼위(Trinity)는 하나님, 예수그리스도, 성신의 삼위삼체를 의미 한다. 단순한 절제된 세 직선의 만남으로 인해, 꼭지 점이 형성되는데, 그것으로 인해 보이지 않는 힘이 형성된다. 이러한 삼각 구조 체의 좋은 사례는 피라미드(Pyramid)인데, 5000∼6000년 이전부터 축조된 건축물이나 무덤으로 역사적으로 가장 안정된 건축물이라 할 수 있다. 피라미드의 경우 외부의 모양이 대체적으로 삼각형을 형성하고 있다. 이집트의 피라미드는 정삼각형에 가깝고, 각 나라나 대륙에 따라서 삼각형의 구조물에 또 다른 부속 형태를 도입하거나 계단식으로 변형을 주기도 한다. 삼각에 의한 무게의 분산으로 인해 가장 안정적으로 서로를 지탱하여 웬만한 지각변동에도 안전할 수 있다. 이러한 완벽한 구조를 활용하여 이집트 피라미드의 경우는 주로 왕이나 귀족을 무덤으로 사용된 것으로 알려져 있다. 그 구조는 빛과 관련되어 있으며, 사방으로 동일한 모양을 선사한다. 나이지리아의 경우는 신의 임재 함에 대한 경의로 막대기를 설치해 놓기도 하고, 그리스의 경우는 일반적인 공공 무덤으로 활용하기도 하고, 멕시코에서는 인간의 희생물을 바치는 장소로 활용하기도 하는데, 경우에 따라서 다양한 목적을 지니고 사용된다. 이러한 의미를 바탕으로 하여 본인이 사용하는 삼각구조는 영적으로 숭고한 장소를 표현하며, 현세와 내세를 연결 짓는 통로이자 가장 안정적이며 편안함을 주는 장소로서의 이미지를 구축하기 위함이다. 그 속에 등장하는, 수면 중이거나 웅크리고 있거나 기지개를 펴는 것과 같은 가장 편안한 자세 혹은 명상적인 자세 등을 표출하는 여인이미지는, 영적인 휴식을 의미한다. 영원을 지향하는 황색 혹은 블루 공간에서 현세적인 삶의 고뇌를 헤쳐 나아가 진정한 안식으로 향하는 시각을 선사하고자 하는 것이다. 박기웅 작업노트 2020 2월 Rest <2020-3>
<Rest in Triangle Space> Series With having extreme stress to survive in competing society, many people have insomnia from workaholic and anxiety. To solve this problem, somebody have to eat sleeping drugs, somebody do not sleep until midnight but to see Smart phone, many merchants do not take off the electric sign boards after working hours. From midnight until early morning, the surrounding areas of Hongik University and Kangnam subway are more crowded than daytime. French philosopher Jean Baudrillard describes this situation as the phenomenon of worshipping the light as the contemporary Idol. Through my arts, I want to express the new optical eye with the subject Sabbath and Rest. For religious and worldly reason, the sabbath and rest is necessary for re-creation. In Christ Church, Sabbath day which is one of Ten Commandment, decide 7 days fer a week, work former 6 days and take a rest(sabbath) final a day is the rule. Further, in case of a day, usual people have to take 5-7 hours sleep is necessary for re-fresh as the necessary part of our continual living. Every humans take 30% hours for sleeping and that is deeply related in human health. As the extension of this theory, the best sleeping is to take a part of the eternal rest of God's. We are taking rest or sleep in their home, Hotels, libraries, buses, trains, boats, airplanes, on the roads, in the wild and others... When or Where is the most excellent rest or sleep? I think one of it is to take a rest or sleep in the triangle space. The triangle is most stable structure, so each line is sustaining each others and be a perfect structure. One example of the perfect triangle is Trinity as is unification of the God, Jesus Christ and Holy Ghost. As to meet just simple three lines, one top point is made. And finally a powerful strength appears. One more good example is the Pyramids, which were built almost 5000-6000 years ago and are used for buildings and tombs be reputed as the most stable constructions. In case of the Pyramids, the outer shapes of them are mostly triangle. The outer shape Egyptian pyramid is as similar as regular triangle and those of the other countries' or continents' are basically triangle with some other shapes or additional shapes added or reformed by stair styles. Separation of weight can make the pyramid structures most stable so is able to sustain strong earthquakes. To utilize the stableness, Egyptian pyramid is used for the Kings' or nobilities' tombs. The structure is related in lights and give similar shapes for four directions. In Nigeria, a stick was placed at the top to respect God's residence; in Greece the pyramids were used as Common Tombs; Pyramid in Mexico were often used as the place of the human sacrifice and various Episodes are related in the mound-building people's religious life. Based on these meanings, my triangle structures are strengthen by the spiritual sublime place of the passage from this world to next world; and furthermore those are the stable and safe location. The sleeping, curling or yawning female personage in the triangle is making the most safe or meditative postures and means the spiritual rest. In the yellow and blue space to direct eternality, I want to suggest to overcome the worldly anguish and give new eye of real sabbath. Feb. 2010 from my Work Note. Fitness <2020-4>
