Free & Soft Series

1995년 늦은 귀하를 하던 중, 비바람이 스산하게 치던 어느 날, 문득 길 옆을 지나가는데, 우스스 하며 소리를 내던 “플라타너스 한 그루가, “나도 살아있다!”라고 말을 하는 바람에 깜짝 놀랐다. 그것은 마음 속의 음성인지 환청인지 정확하게 알 수는 없었다. 이 말의 참 의미는 

무엇인가?

그때의 자연의 가르침, 작은 유전자로부터 출발해서 거대한 나무가 된다는 사실을 깨우쳐 주었다는 사실을 추후 깨달았다. 그것은 평범한 진리이지만, 작업에 적용되는 중대한 원리라는 사실을 당시에는 깨우치지 못했기 때문이다.

2021년 현재, 곰곰히 생각해보니 이러한 조형이념이 하나의 불씨로 작용하리라는 생각이 깃들기 시작하였다. 나에게 있어서 그것은 Botanic map시리즈에서 연속으로 등장하는 유형으로 이 당시의 작업의 core DNA는 micro cosmos를 연구하는 것이었다. 그것은 식물이나 동물의 세포와 같은 미시적 우주를 탐구하여, 그 구조와 색상을 탐구하여 추상회화를 제작하는 

것이었다.

이러한 추상적인 표현을 다시 재해석하여 오늘의 <Free & Soft> 시리즈로 재탄생하게 되는데, 그것은 일정한 상황을 재현하는 모사의 단계에서 모든 것을 인지의 단계로 업그레이드하는 것을 말한다.

 In 1995, I heard special voice from big plane tree “I am alive, too!”

The it was the special lesson from Nature what a small gene (which has a DNA) is 

scheduled to be a big tree. Despite it is a plane truth, then I did not aware what a beautiful important rule that can control every art work practice.

After that , in my heart, it is the most important fire-seed for my entire art theory. Delicately, it can arise once again from the previous series “Botanic map 1995”. Botanic map series art works are made from the study of Micro cosmos what is the core DNA of the art works. It is to investigate the micro-cosmos which is unfolding in the cells of plants and animals to create the abstract paintings. Further, it becomes new series of <Free & Soft> now. Finally, from the represent the real situation to upgrade to the next level of cognic paradise.

Shakespeare Series

엄격히 말하자면 본인이 하고 있는 작품들은 특정 장르로 구분하기 힘들다. 회화/조각/금속공예 등을 포괄하는 Metal Art이다. 다만 이러한 장르적인 구분을 무시하고 그냥 예술이라는 폭넓은 시각으로 작품을 제작한다. 실재로 장르를 구분하는 것 자체가 나에게는 아무런 의미가 없다. 그러한 구분 자체가 자유스러운 표현을 방해하기 때문이다. 그리고 열, 습기, 부식 등에 견디는 가장 내구성이 강한 예술을 만드는 것도 중요하다고 본다. 

예술이 아름다와야하는 것은 당연하다. 그리고 그러한 아름답게 제작하는 것을 미적인 표현이라고 본다. 그러나 단순히 미적인 표현 만을 고집한다면, 그것은 모더니즘의 모토 “예술을 위한 예술”에 그치지 않는다. 그렇지만, 미적인 것에 더하여 예술에 심오한 의미를 담는다면,즉, 특정한 메시지를 심는다면, 이러한 모더니즘적인 방식에서 벗어나게 된다.

 

Introduction of Ongoing Art works

Strictly, the art works of now is not easy to describe just a genre. They are from inbetween 2nd and 3rd Dimensional painting/sculpture/metal craft. To ignore the distinguishness of certain genre, widely open eye, only I create art works. In really, the distinguishness of the genre is no meaning. To decide it coould be an obstacle for me in the free expression. Furthermore, it is very important to make artworks to endure heat, moisture, corrision and others. 

The beautifulness of art is natural. And to create it beautiful is aesthtical expression. However, only to create art aesthetically is not over the Modernism moto “Art for art”. However, with having aestheticality, to plant certain profound meaning in the art, another word, to conceal special message in it, the it can overcome the modernism boundary.

 

 반사체의 마법: 셰익스피어 시리즈 

전체의 줄거리에 비중을 두는 5막의 희곡에서 중심적인 3가지의 장면으로 축약하여, 작품의 중심이 되는 줄거리를 포착 후, 재해석 하고, 이를 새로운 미학으로 이끌어내는데 중점을 둔다. 각각의 작품은 트리피치(3장면 동시배치) 형식으로 제작되거나 중심 테마 중에서 한 가지 플롯을 선택하여 단막으로 제작되기도 한다. 스텐리스 스틸 거울 판을 절삭하여 적절한 규격으로 제작하는데 많은 비중을 두고, 거울에 비친 일루전, 부조적인 2.5차원성, 매끈한 재질감 등 3∼4가지의 특별한 기법을 활용한다.

Magic of Reflection: Shakespeare Series

After studying the great moments of the Literature, I have tried to make stage style arts. To focus on the main stream lines, I recreate each scenes with new visual aesthetics. Triptych style each art works describe three main stories from 5 Acts from the original plays and adapt a scene from each scene. Focus on delicate cut the stainless steel plates, I adapt 3 or 4 methods: illusion of the mirror, 2.7 Dimension, and metal texture.

2.7차원 공간과 환영: <틈새> 시리즈

틈새를 통해, 사람의 탄생과 죽음 혹은 등장 과 퇴장 등을 통해서 앞모습과 뒷모습의 의미를 그려내고 있다. 보통으로는 여성 누드가 선택되는데, 때로는 사람이 옆에서 등장하여 반사되는 일루전을 통해서 반쪽으로 이루어진 사람이 나머지 모습이 반사체로 완성된다. 연인 사이의 관계 등이 묘사되기도 하여.... 인생의 희로애락을 인체의 아름다음과 몸짓을 통해 즐겁고 유익하게 표현하는데 주안점을 두고 있다. 

2.7 Dimension Space+Illusion: <In-between> Series

To describe front and back side of human-beings from in-between, it symbolizes the birth and death. Usually, the shapes of female nude is selected but the half shape images are completed through reflected illusion. But the couple images in between two lovers' dialogues are also described.... The aesthetics of the metal craft and drawing is mixed with a certain symbolic stage. It can be the art of the illusion of reflection with the reality of human bodies beautiful line.
